Acedify

IELTS Academic & General Training

Fluency, pauses, pronunciation — Speaking feedback you can act on.

Record IELTS Speaking Parts 1–3 and get diagnostic measures on fluency, silent gaps between words, pacing, pronunciation and prosody — so you know what to fix before test day. These are Acedify diagnostics, not official examiner bands. Listening still plays once; Reading and Writing follow Academic or General Training.

  • Listening plays once — Part 3 matching is where multi-listen prep collapses
  • Writing scored against Task 1 / Task 2 rubric criteria, not “sounds academic”
  • Section bands toward a narrowing range — not a single quiz percent

Free practice across all four skills. Speaking diagnostics on Pro. No card required to start.

I would describe the market near my flat, where stalls sell handmade ceramics.

Dials are Acedify's own diagnostic measures, not official IELTS band scores. IELTS reports Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking on the 0–9 band scale.

Academic or General Training

Same Listening and Speaking. Different Reading and Writing.

Book the module your institution or visa checklist names. Listening (four parts, 40 questions, plays once) and Speaking (three parts, 11–14 minutes) are identical for Academic and General Training. Reading texts and Writing Task 1 are not — practising the wrong module measures the wrong sitting.

Overall band is the average of the four skills, rounded to the nearest half band. A high Writing band cannot rescue a Listening band below a stated minimum.

Practice · True / False / Not Given

No clock

The city opened a new cycle lane along the river last spring. Commuters who switched from driving reported shorter journeys, although the council has not published a count of how many people made the switch.

The council knows how many commuters stopped driving.

TrueFalseNot Given

Decided by the highlighted sentence

The text says the count was not published. It does not say the council lacks the number. Unpublished is not the same as unknown, so the statement is Not Given.

Every explanation points at the line that decides the answer.

What you get back

A sitting gives you evidence. An estimate gives you a range.

When you finish a timed module, you get evidence for that sitting — because it happened and it is measurable. Your ability estimate is different: it is an inference from the work you have done, reported as a range that narrows as you sit more. Anyone showing a single predicted overall band from one untimed afternoon is guessing and hiding it.

Until we have enough of your answers to say something useful, we show no estimate at all rather than a range so wide it is meaningless.

Where your ability sits now

6.5–7.5

A range, because an estimate without one is a guess dressed up as a fact.

Listening7.0–8.0
Reading6.5–7.5
Writing6.0–7.0
Speaking6.5–7.5

Flip between the two. A graded sitting gives you evidence; an ability estimate gives you a range.

Play-once modules across Parts 1–4. Explanations point at the audio cue or paraphrase that decides the answer. Timed sittings restore the real rule: no rewind.

Sections

What’s in the IELTS test

IELTS assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Listening and Speaking are the same for Academic and General Training; Reading and Writing differ. Choose your module before starting practice.

Listening

40 questions · ~30 minutes

Plays once. Four parts, ten questions each. Part 3 matching is where multi-listen prep usually collapses.

Task typeItems
Part 1 · everyday conversation10
Part 2 · monologue10
Part 3 · discussion10
Part 4 · lecture10

Reading

40 questions · 60 minutes

Academic is three longer passages. General Training is three sections that move from everyday texts to workplace texts to a longer general passage. Item types include True/False/Not Given, Yes/No/Not Given and matching headings. Practising the other module measures the wrong sitting.

Task typeItems
Academic · longer passages3
General Training · everyday to longer3

Writing

2 tasks · 60 minutes

Academic Task 1 describes a visual. General Training Task 1 is a letter. Task 2 is a discursive essay and is commonly treated as carrying about twice the weight of Task 1 when the two form one Writing band — that ratio is not stated on the public band descriptors. Scored on task response or achievement, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource, and grammatical range and accuracy.

Speaking

3 parts · 11–14 minutes

Part 1 is a short interview. Part 2 is a long turn: one minute to prepare, then one to two minutes of talk. Part 3 is a discussion. On test day an examiner leads the test, face to face or by video call. Acedify practice returns diagnostic measures, not an official band.

About 2 hours 45 minutes end to end. Speaking may be the same day or within a short window. Listening plays once. The overall band is the average of the four skills, rounded to the nearest half band.
